Elective Affinities at The Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art

Elective Affinities is a 19th century scientific term for the chemical attraction of certain substances to each other above others; it is the title of Johanne Wolfgang Goethe’s 1809 novel of human relationships directed by kindred feeling; and it is the title of a painting by surrealist painter Rene Magritte, of the poetry that resides in the disorienting juxtaposition of related objects. Elective Affinities, is a juried exhibition of works by regional artists, which includes painting, drawing, cyanotype, collage, print, and wall-hung sculpture, The exhibiting artists are Jennifer Avallone, Barbara Owen, Rosemary Cotnoir, Elizabeth Ellenwood, Keira Gonsalves, Will Holub, Jerry Weiss, Matthew Kreher, Margarita Maxson, Eleanor Miller, Joan Mullins, Yujuan Patnode, Cari Roaldset, Carmela Venti, Brooke Waldron, Vivian Zoe, Asha Aravind, Maya Bustamante, and Randall Paterson.

Gallery Hours are Thursday-Sunday from 12-4:00 pm
