Every month there’s a consistently good amount of live music happening all over Connecticut. Each city ranging from Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford, New London and everywhere in between has a few shows happening that can’t be overlooked.

With this in mind, here’s the debut edition of “The Good Time Rundown.” At the beginning of each month, I will be picking a few shows happening around these parts you shouldn’t miss out on.

To be in the know on where to go, here’s what’s going down in June.

DJ Logic & Friends
June 4 @ Park City Music Hall
2926 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport
9 p.m., 21+ $40

Hailing from The Bronx, DJ Logic has been dabbling in acid jazz and the jam music scene through the use of turntables for the past 30 years. This show has him joining up with avant-garde jazz keyboardist John Medeski from Medeski, Martin & Wood, drummer Mike Greenfield and bassist Jesse Miller from Lotus and guitarist Rob Compa from Dopapod. Opening things up will be the Philadelphia futuristic funk fusion trio Muscle Tough with Dopapod keyboardist Eli Winderman jumping on as a special guest.

Umphrey’s McGee and The Disco Biscuits
June 9 @ Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater
500 Broad Street, Bridgeport
7:30 p.m., All Ages $25 – $65

Shows where there’s not just one, but two headlining acts guarantee a special experience. With multi-genre rock dynamos Umphrey’s McGee and The Disco Biscuits, chances are that the venue might go into liftoff at some point during either of their performances. The former has more of a progressive approach while the latter is more psychedelic, but both sounds will compliment each other very well on stage.

Nova One (Photo by Sophia Swanson)

Nova One
June 10 @ The State House
310 State Street, New Haven
8 p.m., 21+ $10

Nova One is a collective project that has Providence artist Roz Raskin as the creative nucleus. The act’s debut album Lovable that came out back in April of 2020 via Community Records exudes a mix of modern dream pop and psychedelic rock while echoing girl groups from the ‘60s. Local acts The Tines and Glambat will be starting off the show for a complete musical experience.

P(x3)
June 11 @ Arch Street Tavern
85 Arch Street, Hartford
9 p.m., 21+ $10

Drummer Rob Madore and keyboardist & saxophonist Isaac Young refer to themselves as an “apocalyptic organ duo” and it’s a spot on description after seeing them perform live. Their music blends synthwave, electronica  jazz, funk, hip-hop beats and even some regional Mongolian folk together to create a sonic powerhouse that’s made them one of the top local acts to check out in Connecticut. Miami experimental duo TWYN will be splitting the bill and maintaining the inventive weirdness.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls (Photo by Steven Island)

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls
June 15th @ Toad’s Place
300 York Street, New Haven
7 p.m., All Ages $35/adv $38/day of

As part of their “50 States in 50 Days” tour, Turner and his backing band will be putting on a punk rock party. His latest album FTHC that came out back in February is one of the best releases to come out so far this year. Fellow Englishmen Pet Needs and Los Angeles punks The Bronx are going to be kicking off the show so arrive promptly.

Keller Williams (Photo by Austin Friedline)

Keller Williams
June 17th @ Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun
1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Uncasville
8 p.m., 21+ Free

Since the early ‘90s, Keller Williams has been perfecting the art of the one-man band. His enthusiasm for looping makes him an incredible musician to see on stage while his music weaves through the bluegrass, folk, alt-rock, reggae, electronica, jazz and funk styles. This upcoming show is free as well so just show up, take a seat and enjoy.
