Wassail In The Orchard & Apple Cook-Off at Yankee Cider Co.
November 2, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$50
Celebrate the end of the harvest season and help us bless the apples for a restful winter and a bountiful new year at our November Orchard Wassail. This light-hearted ceremony is meant to promote the health of the trees and to ensure a bountiful harvest in the coming season. The day is packed with fun, apple-themed events throughout the afternoon and culminates in our Orchard Wassail at 4:00 pm. 1:00 PM – Apple Cook-Off – Tap Room We kick off the afternoon by celebrating the humble apple in all of its tasty forms! Our line-up of home cooks get put to the test in front of the judges during our Apple Cook-Off. Contestants have previously received Staehly Farms apples which they have turned into a dessert dish of their choice. 2:30 PM – Orchard Games – Petticoat Orchard Join in for the first-ever Orchard Games, where you’ll be challenged to several different fun tasks to prove yourself as Champion of the Orchard. Enjoy an apple toss, cider donut eating contest, and a few more fun and apple-themed events throughout the afternoon. 4:00 PM – Pyre Lighting – Petticoat Orchard At the conclusion of our Orchard Games, we light an orchard bonfire to warm the evening and scare away any unfriendly spirits from the orchards as winter begins to take hold. Then we gather around the fire, banging pots and pans to scare the spirits further, before enjoying some spirits of our own before the Wassail begins. 4:30 PM – Wassail – Petticoat Orchard Just before sunset, our Orchard Champion and Orchard Keeper dress the trees and the Apple Man. As the sun begins to slip below the horizon we’ll serenade the trees with well-wishes and songs as they go to sleep for the winter, in hopes and promise of a bountiful spring to come. Warm, layered, and colorful attire is recommended. This is a whimsical and fun event – Not to be taken too seriously! But even still, this event is not suitable for those under 18. Rain date of November 3rd. | |
