New Haven Symphony Orchestra “Renaissance Rhythms: From Harlem to New Haven,” The Montey Café Experience: Discussion & Social

April 6 @ 6:00 pm

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will present “Renaissance Rhythms: From Harlem to New Haven,” a week of programs spanning the week of April 6- 14, which explore the artistic outpouring of music, theatre, and writing that flourished in both the Harlem Renaissance and New Haven’s Renaissance during the same era.

Take a step back in time to the splendor of the Harlem Renaissance through The Montey Café Experience. Named after Dixwell’s Monterery Cafe, where legendary jazz performers including Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Charles Parker and John Coltrane graced the stage alongside local giants, this first installment of the Renaissance Rhythms series brings together live music, discussion, and refined revelry to honor the captivating history of the Harlem Renaissance and the thriving jazz scene of New Haven.

The evening features performances by Cliff & Friends Trio, and members of The Monk Family. Before we break in our dancing shoes, one of the highlights of the night is a lively panel discussion about the past, present and future of jazz.
Come dressed in the style and glamour of the Harlem Renaissance, and enjoy complimentary food and drinks alongside community and live music!
