Introduction to Darning: Live Zoom Workshop with Flora Collingwood-Norris

Register immediately to receive materials A 3 hour Zoom workshop on how to do darning on knitwear. This will be a relaxed and friendly darning workshop suitable for beginners where you will learn how to darn your knitwear colourfully. Covering different darning approaches of working from the front and back of the fabric, the aim of workshop is to leave you confident to start repairing your own knitwear in a creative way. Materials will be sent out to you in advance. In the UK materials will be sent by first class post, and I will send them using a tracked and signed for service everywhere else. This can take about 10 days- 4 weeks, so please leave plenty of time for this when you order. If you would prefer to provide your own materials, please see my other darning knitwear workshop. Performance: Gossip by Alexa West at The Aldrich

Gossip is a choreographed duet created in response to the current exhibition Loie Hollowell: Space Between, A Survey of Ten Years. Choreographed and presented by dance artist Alexa West performed by Owen Prum and Chelsea Enjer Hecht. Gossip will occur as a live performance in the Museum’s first floor on Saturday, June 22 at 2 pm and repeated at 4 pm. This performance is organized by Education Director Namulen Bayarsaihan and Chief Curator Amy Smith-Stewart. The celebration in honor of Juneteenth—a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans—will take place on the north lawn of the Florence Griswold Museum. The event features a quartet led by legendary bassist Nat Reeves and new work by Connecticut poets Marilyn Nelson, Kate Rushin, Rhonda Ward, and Antoinette Brim-Bell, who in 2021 created a tribute in verse to those enslaved in the historic town of Lyme. The jazz quartet includes world-renowned saxophonist Abraham Burton, celebrated pianist James Austin, Jr., and impressive percussionist Michael Ode. For more information
