Bronze Day: A day of demonstrations, talks, and fiery fun at Wesleyan

Celebrating the use of bronze in antiquity and today!

Join us on Sat April 26 to see:

  • Live demos of bronze casting ancient swords
  • All-day iron smelting on Andrus field
  • Demos and talks with archaeologists on how the discover and analyze metal artifacts
  • Gallery talks on ancient bronze currency and copper minerals from Wes Collections
  • Demos of new technology with modern Copper Alloys
  • The “Sound of Bronze”: a gamelan petting zoo and documentary
  • Stamp Rally: collecting stamps in Linear B writing (Bronze Age Greek)

…and featuring an amazing keynote talk by experimental Archaeologist Barry Molloy (UC Dublin):
“From the birth of the sword to the Trojan War: How bronzeworkers in the Aegean invented and perfected Europe’s first metal combat blades.”
