Artist Conversation: “White Triptych” with Sir Christopher Le Brun and Matthew Hargraves at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art

Hartford-area artist Carlos Hernández Chávez returns to the Wadsworth to discuss an ofrenda, a traditional Mexican memorial altar, that he has created with fellow artist Mercury to celebrate Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

Featured in accompaniment to “Between Life and Death” this traditional ofrenda invites all to contribute personal photos or other remembrances of their dearly departed. These decorated altars are a long-held Mexican tradition during Día de Muertos, built and dressed in cemeteries, homes, and other places of importance or worship.
