NEW CANAAN — A high school senior was struck and killed by a train at the Talmadge Hill station in New Canaan on Saturday, the Metropolitan Transit Authority confirmed to CT Examiner on Monday.
Sixteen-year-old Elliot Kropf was struck at the Talmadge Hill station by Metro-North train 6766 at approximately 23:12 hours on Saturday, Sept. 14, according to MTA media liaison Joana Flores.
New Canaan EMS pronounced Kropf dead on the scene at 23:29 hours. Flores reported that no criminality was suspected.
The community was notified of Kropf’s sudden death yesterday in a letter from New Canaan Superintendent Bryan Luizzi, who described Kropf as “a strong student, an excellent athlete, a kind young man, and a wonderful friend.”
Luizzi expressed condolences to Kropf’s family and loved ones and notified students that counseling services would be available.
Kropf played varsity hockey for the New Canaan High School Rams.
Classes at New Canaan High School operated on a two-hour delay this morning.
Train service at the station was suspended in both directions yesterday, Sunday, September 16, as a result of the incident.
