There are a bunch of great shows happening in September and here’s a rundown of some that deserve your undivided attention.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
September 10 @ Foxwoods Premier Theater
39 Norwich-Westerly Road, Ledyard
8 p.m. All Ages
Both Plant and Krauss are legends in their respective styles. Plant is regarded as one of the greatest frontmen of all time through his run with rock & roll icons Led Zeppelin during the ‘70s. Krauss has been one of the leading figures in bluegrass since the mid-80s. Their albums together — Raising Sand, released in 2007, and Raise The Roof, released last fall — feature some stellar music.
Anti-Flag
September 18 @ Space Ballroom
295 Treadwell Street, Hamden
8 p.m. All Ages
Few bands are more political and anti-establishment than Pittsburgh punks Anti-Flag. This upcoming show is part of a tour by guitarist and vocalist Justin Sane, bassist Chris No. 2, rhythm guitarist Chris Head and drummer Pat Thetic to support their upcoming album Lies They Tell Our Children, to be released on January 6. Brendan Kelly from Chicago punks The Lawrence Arms and Boston indie rock act Mint Green will be opening things up.
Old Crow Medicine Show
September 24 @ Garde Arts Center
325 State Street, New London
8 p.m. All Ages
Old Crow Medicine Show know how to provide a fun experience with their old-time Americana sound that has a modern spin on it. It’ll also be quite the treat to see them live in a place like the Garde where the acoustics are pristine. They’ll be playing some fresh material off of their latest album Paint This Town, which came out in April.
Never Come Down, a country act from Portland, Ore., kicks things off.
The B-52’s
September 29 @ Foxwoods Premier Theater
39 Norwich-Westerly Road, Ledyard
7:30 p.m. All Ages
New wave icons The B-52’s are on their farewell tour — so this is likely your last chance to see them perform if you’re in the area. People are going to be dancing to hits such as “Love Shack”, “Private Idaho”, “Rock Lobster” and “Roam” and it’ll be a party unlike any other. Disco-funk legends KC & The Sunshine Band will be starting off the festivities so show up prepared to bust a move or two.
Black Joe Lewis and Cedric Burnside
September 30 @ Wall Street Theater
71 Wall Street, Norwalk
8 p.m. All Ages
Black Joe Lewis from Austin, and Cedric Burnside from Memphis, complement each other well. With his backing band The Honeybears, Lewis blends blues, funk and soul into a really cool rock & roll sound that shreds. The grandson of blues legend R.L. Burnside, Cedric honed his style while growing up near the Mississippi Delta and has since collaborated with the likes of his grandfather, T-Model Ford, Widespread Panic and Jon Spencer among others.
