COLCHESTER — The Board of Education unanimously appointed Eve Hurley as the district’s new director of pupil services and special education on Tuesday, following the resignation of former director Amy Emory.

Hurley previously worked as a special education teacher in South Windsor beginning in 2012, where she was promoted to supervisor of special education in 2018.

Hurley told CT Examiner she has “had her eye” on Colchester for a while, since she lived in a neighboring town.

“I think it’s doing a lot of really innovative things in terms of programming, and I know that people are looking for transparency, and visibility and really presence in special education, and in [that] office specifically,” she said.

In an Oct. 26 letter addressed to Superintendent Dan Sullivan, Emory said she was resigning due to “pressing personal matters” effective Dec. 15.

Hurley said she hopes to start her new position before the holiday break.
