To the Editor:

I am writing this letter enthusiastically endorsing John Mesham for the position of Old Lyme First Selectman. John has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our country, state, town and our family. He is the ideal candidate for this important role.

Standing side by side for more than 30 years, no one knows more clearly the value and heart John brings if elected as Old Lyme First Selectman. His public service career was balanced by a passion for making our community a better place to live – whether at work, volunteering in the community, participating in town boards or engaging in meaningful conversations with our neighbors. He is committed to the good of others.

John is the calm in any storm. He is an observer who by nature and training can quickly boil down complex situations. His extensive State Police management experience translates well to the skills and knowledge necessary to manage the daily responsibilities of the First Selectman.

John is a man of ethical resolve whose actions speak louder than words. He is committed, hardworking and supportive as a colleague, friend, husband and Dad. Our three children are building careers in public service or attending college. Our son Owen serves as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, our daughter Anna works as an intensive care nurse and daughter Emily is a student. Immersed in the natural beauty of our town and great schools, they are living and leading by lessons learned in our community and at home.

John is prepared to lead Old Lyme. If elected, his common sense approach will enhance the incredible community we share and support improvements. I encourage you to meet John. Have a conversation. Your choice will be clear. I wholeheartedly support John Mesham for Old Lyme First Selectman and ask for your support on November 7.
