To the Editor,

I am writing this letter to go on record as endorsing John Mesham and Judith Read as the most qualified candidates for the office of First Selectman and Selectwoman in Old Lyme.

As a fellow Old Lyme resident, I know with John’s experience in the military, 29 year law enforcement in surrounding towns, and the Connecticut State Police, he will bring experience and dedication in serving as First Selectman in Old Lyme. Having also been involved in community programs in neighboring towns, John has a wide perspective and broad experience to better serve the residents of Old Lyme.

Living in Old Lyme for 30 years, John and his wife Nancy raised three children who all attended Old Lyme Schools. While serving as Scoutmaster for many of our children in Old Lyme and Lyme for 10 years, John has taught and lead by example, and helped our children develop sound qualities and strong character which will serve them well throughout their adult lives.

John is one the most honest and trustworthy individuals that I know, and I have found him to be fair-minded and to work harmoniously with people with a wide range of diversity and beliefs.

John’s extensive managerial background and experience make him the clear choice for this important position of trust and competency.

Judith’s extensive financial management expertise is invaluable. With over twenty years of dedicated service on the Board of Finance, Judith brings unmatched knowledge of the town’s fiscal management, which has resulted in stable taxes and no recent mill rate increases, ensuring our town’s financial well-being. Judith’s active involvement in town budget development has equipped her to handle the intricacies of managing Old Lyme’s finances. Her dedication and commitment to financial stability are evident, making her an excellent choice to safeguard our town’s fiscal health.

Judith’s background, characterized by sincerity, trust, and ethics underscores her understanding and experience of how to effectively govern Old Lyme and is widely respected by Old Lyme residents. Judith’s many years of service in Old Lyme are well known to most Old Lyme residents, serving on the Board of Education, McCurdy Salisbury Education Foundation, and as a Girl Scout leader earning her the respect and trust of Old Lyme residents.

As you can see in my letter there is a recurring theme throughout John’s and Judith’s lives; and that is one of experience, trust, and service to the community and town.

I encourage all residents to support and cast their vote for John and Judith, who embody the qualities and experience we need to lead our town forward, to continue making Old Lyme a great place to live.

Sincerely,

Christopher Kerr
Old Lyme
