To the Editor:
I am writing to endorse Mary Powell-St. Louis for re-election to the Region 18 Board of Education. She has been a steadfast Lyme representative to the Board for the past 8 years. Born and raised in Connecticut, Mary and her husband Tom have called Lyme home since 1998. Their three sons have all attended Region 18 schools since kindergarten giving her an in-depth perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing Region 18. After a lengthy career as a practicing physician, Mary was recruited by Pfizer in 2016 and is currently working as a clinical researcher in vaccine development.
As an incumbent board member Mary has a proven track record of achieving results and advocating for both students and teachers. Her public health and business background bring an added dimension to the board. She is currently Vice Chair of both the Region Board and the Building Subcommittee and is a member of both the Facilities and Finance Committee and the Safety Committee. Mary is well-positioned to help our town and the district manage the recently-passed referendum on facilities refurbishment and continuous improvement in our policies and practices.
