To the Editor:

My name is Karina Julius and I am running for re-election to the Old Saybrook Board of Education. I have been fortunate to serve on the Board for the last 5 years, and I am the chair of both the Budget and Fiscal and Demographics Committees. My husband and I have lived in Old Saybrook for 22 years, and both of our, now college-aged, boys were educated in the Old Saybrook school system. Professionally, I am the director of Finance Training & Development at Yale University.

It’s no secret our school district is among the highest ranked in Connecticut; our Superintendent has been recognized as the Superintendent of the Year, and our Board has received recognition by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education as being a Leadership Board of Distinction for each of the last 13 years. These successes don’t happen by accident. They are the result of a strong, cohesive board, working collaboratively, with the interests of students and teachers in mind. If re-elected, I will continue to advocate for these principles and will not let personalities or politics get in the way of doing what’s right for our community. This is integral, as we will be hiring a new superintendent next year.

I am committed to ensuring that our strategic plan continues to drive excellence in our schools, supporting the needs of our district staff, and working together to make certain that parents remain a vital part of their children’s education. Please vote for me, and my three experienced Republican colleagues, on November 7th  to ensure an uninterrupted continuation of our district’s tradition of excellence.

Thanks,

Karina Julius
