To the Editor:

Fairfield County Republicans are fortunate enough to have an excellent candidate for Congress to run against Jim Himes – Dr. Michael Goldstein.

A 72-year-old eye surgeon and lawyer, Dr. Goldstein could easily be enjoying cruises and exotic vacations with his lovely wife. Instead, purely motivated by patriotism, Dr. Goldstein decided to run.

Connecticut is one of the few states that still allows party insiders to pick the candidates and that is what they did. Not one of their choices came close to beating Jim Himes in the past. In fact, the pollster 538 ran 40,000 simulations and concluded that the party insider’s choice had a less than 1% chance of winning.

But Dr. Goldstein against all odds, got a huge number of petitions in a short amount of time and earned the right to primary the party insider’s choice. And if Republican primary voters vote for Dr. Goldstein, he will defeat Jim Himes because there are enough ideological differences between the two candidates.

It is time for Connecticut Fairfield Republicans to have a choice for their candidate against Jim Himes. And this time, they will pick the winner Dr. Michael Goldstein.
