To the Editor:

Planning and Zoning Commissioners are on the ballot November 2 in Middletown. I am running for re-election as an independent candidate because Planning and Zoning is central to Middletown’s economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and housing opportunities. Vote Stephen H. Devoto, row C.

I want to continue the work that is documented in our Plan of Conservation and Development: make our city thriving, vibrant, connected, and sustainable. We must have a zoning code that supports local business establishment and growth, promotes environmental sustainability, and encourages a diversity of housing options.

I have more experience than any other candidate, having attended the Planning and Zoning Commission for over 20 years. I was elected to the commission in 2013, and have been chair since 2016. I have experience working with staff in City Hall, under mayors of both parties.

You have 3 votes, make them count! There are restrictions on how many Democrats and Republicans can be seated, under any circumstance only 1 Democrat can be seated, and only 1 Republican is guaranteed to be seated. I am on the ballot as an independent petitioning candidate. I am unaffiliated with either of the two parties. Consider using one of your votes for experience and non-partisan independence.

Please vote Row C, Stephen H. Devoto, incumbent Chair of Planning and Zoning.
