Webinar: Hillel Cohen: The Palestinian Israeli Conflict: The True Story: from the Yale Whitney Humanities Center

November 13, 2024 @ 4:00 pm
The Palestinian Israeli Conflict: The True Story
Through an investigation of the Zionist and Palestinian narratives we will try to understand what allows each side in the conflict to present itself as a victim and the other side as the aggressor. However, we will not ask who is right but whether it is possible to bridge these opposing views.Hillel Cohen, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has served as chair of the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and head of the Center for the Study of Zionism, the Yishuv, and the State of Israel. He is interested in Jewish-Arab and intra-Jewish relations and in the ways in which communities and individuals narrate their own and others’ histories. His books include Good Arabs: The Israeli Security Agencies and the Israeli Arabs, 1948–1967 (2008) and Year Zero of the Israeli Palestinian Conflict 1929 (2013). His latest book, Enemies, a Love Story: On Mizrahi Jews, Palestinian Arabs and Ashkenazim was published in Hebrew last summer and will be published next year by Penn State University Press.
