250 Years of American Diplomacy Featuring Michael Hattem at the Pequot Library in Southport

Join us for a talk and book signing with Michael Hattem, an American historian with interests in early America, the American Revolution, and historical memory. He is the author of The Memory of ’76: The Revolution in American History (Yale University Press, 2024), which was a finalist for the 2025 George Washington Prize, and Past and Prologue: Politics and Memory in the American Revolution (Yale University Press, 2020). He is currently the Associate Director of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute. His work has been featured or mentioned in The New York Times, TIME magazine, The Smithsonian Magazine, the Washington Post, as well as many other mainstream media publications and outlets.
You’re invited to stay after Hattem’s talk for the opening of our new exhibition, Print Revolution: Pamphlets, Persuasion, and the Path to Independence, at 3:00 p.m. We’re holding a reception and a chance to explore the exhibition, which remains on view through May 2.
Pequot Library is a proud affiliate of America 250 | Connecticut Commission, the statewide initiative commemorating the Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence—next July 4. In the lead-up to this historic milestone, we’ve planned a series of programs that highlight diverse American voices and perspectives, including this program.
