To the Editor:
Who is Chris Murphy? Chris Murphy, a US Senator from Connecticut? He has been our Senator since 2013. He is left of center. He has not only been vocal against the Trump Administration he has been downright hostile. So, I went and looked at his first Senatorial Report Card beginning in 2016 three years after he was elected. He was ranked 8th from the bottom of all Senate Democrats. He wrote 34 bills. Two came out of Committee but went nowhere; S329 Lower Farmington River and Salmon Scenic River Act and 524 A resolution expressing the sense of the Senate on the conflict in Yemon. He had one bill enacted, S 1600 Judicial Act of 2015 allowing foreign citizens to sue the US for unlawful disclosure of personal information. He received 3 points on whether he supported government transparency. He has had 0 leadership on any committee. He was on 1 subcommittee.
His second Senate Report Card was 2018, he was ranked 10th from the bottom in the Senate. He had the 3rd fewest bills of all Senate Democrats. Getting his bills out of committee he had the 5th least. He wrote 34 Bills. Four bills got out of committee but went nowhere. He had the seventh fewest bills in the Senate. Bi-partisan bills with influential sponsors he was ranked 9th least often. He had two bills that became law S 1326 American Innovation He had two bills become law S 1326 American Innovation $ Coin Act and S. 2399 also the American innovation $1 Coin Act. I could not see any difference. He had 0 leadership on committees. 2 subcommittees.
His third Senate report Card 2020 he was ranked 12th bottom in the Senate. Again, he had the 3rd fewest bills of all Senate Democrats. Getting his bills out of committee he rose to 6th. He wrote 48 Bills. Non passed. Only one became law S 3265 Weir farm National Historical Park. He was ranked 6th least often getting bills out of committee. He had the 8th fewest bipartisan bills of all Democratic Senators. He had 7 bills with influential sponsors. He had 0 leadership committee positions. He was on 3 subcommittees.
His fourth Senate Report Card 2022, he was ranked 7th bottom in the Senate. He had the 6th fewest bills of all Senate Democrats. Getting his bills out of committee he rose to 11. He wrote 54 Bills. He had 10 bills get to the floor for consideration. He had seven bills that became law S. 753 Highlands Conservative Reauthorization Act, s. 3058 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations. 3416 Protective Patients from Counterfeit Medical. He had 0 leadership positions committees and served on two subcommittees. He joined bipartisan bills 13th least often.
His fifth and last report card 2024 updated January 3, 2025, ranked 8th from the bottom in the senate after 10 years. Of bills coming out of committee of those serving 10+ years he was ranked 4th from the bottom.
He wrote the 14th fewest laws for a Senator with !0+ years. He had the fourth fewest bills with bipartisan cosponsors. He had 12 Bills that had a companion bill in the house. S1661 Strength in Diversity Act, S951 Office of Gun Violence Prevention, S2191 National Strategy for Social Connection, Bills introduced 2 Bills that got past committee to the floor but did not get passed. He received bicameral support on the 11th fewest bills in the Senate. Twelve He joined bipartisan bills the 12th least often compared to all Senators. He had 0 leadership positions on committees and served on two subcommittees.
Although he has cosponsored a number of bills his record speaks for itself. He has never gotten above 12th from the bottom out of 100 Senators. Over time, his ranking declined. He is now ranked 8th from the bottom. He is ranked 21st in the Senate as politically left. His claim to fame is gun control legislation. Most Bills he wrote failed to get enacted. Some became law with Bipartisan help. One must look at this report card and these statistics and wonder is Chris Murphy the right individual to represent the State of Connecticut! Why is he still a Senator? Again, conservatives in Connecticut do not vote! This individual has done nothing of significance for the majority of residents of the State. He has been in office since 2013 and keeps getting reelected. Why!
