To the Editor:
Yesterday afternoon a notice was posted indicating the Middletown Board of Education would hold a special meeting as a “Board Retreat” in executive session.
The same agenda was posted at 8:27 AM this morning on the city’s web site.
I object to holding the planned meeting as posted for the following reasons:
- The indicated agenda items do not meet the criteria for executive sessions as set forth in Connecticut General Statutes §1-200(6).
- The indicated agenda does not provide for a vote by the Middletown Board of Education to enter executive session as required by Connecticut General Statutes §1-225(f).
My intent in raising this objection is not to impede the very important work of the Board that is planned for the retreat but to help ensure that it is carried out legally in full compliance with the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act.
Please note that all meetings of the Middletown Board of Education must be open to the public with proper notice as required by Connecticut General Statutes §1-225 and are subject to recording by any member of the public in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes §1-226.
Please ensure compliance by the Middletown Board of Education for this planned special meeting / retreat and for all future meetings.
