To the Editor:
It has been a long and successful run under Noel Bishop’s leadership. He has helped Westbrook maintain it’s status as the gem of the shoreline. Alas, as all good things must come to an end, this spring Noel announced his decision not to run for an 8th term. Often such a momentous decision leaves a vacuum in local governance, but Westbrook is fortunate to have John L Hall III, our current 12-year Board of Selectman member, announce his candidacy for the now vacant First Selectman’s seat. John has been an integral part of the decisions that have served our town so well. He understands the importance of careful and efficient stewardship of our towns tax base, the best use of our resources to better protect the community and the necessity to continue the focus on business and industry development.
While John is pursuing higher office, that leaves his position on the Board of Selectman open. I am asking the voters of Westbrook to choose me, Joseph Campbell, this November. My wife Julie and I have lived in Westbrook for nearly 30 years. Our two daughters, Kelsey and Morgan, are graduates of the Westbrook School District. I have been an active member of St. Marks Church and currently coach 3 sports at Westbrook Middle and High Schools. I am retired from the State of Connecticut after serving over 20 years with the Department of Correction. I even went back on a temporary basis for a year during the height of this pandemic due to the overwhelming pressures put on the prison system, the staff there, as well as the inmates. I served on the Board of Education from 2005 to 2011, a time I am still proud of today. The latest venture my wife and I have undertaken is the opening of our coffee shop, Julie’s Cup of Joe. We have taken a corner location that has struggled many years through numerous attempts of success and built it to a thriving business that has become a destination for locals and visitors alike. We also work closely with area schools and organizations to give real world working opportunities for many of our kids and adults struggling to find them.
As I believe John Hall is the best person suited to fill the shoes left by Noel Bishop, I know I am the best person to take up the mantle when John moves on. Whether we need to work with the School District, decide next best action pertaining to public safety or where to go on business development, I understand the issues and have direct and personal experience at all levels.
The choice is clear and thank you in advance for your support.
