The Old Lyme RTC has endorsed four candidates for the Board of Education all of whom bring necessary skills and energy to the school system.  The RTC endorsements did not focus merely on party affiliation, but rather reflect a strong desire to put forth the best people for the job.  Each candidate demonstrated a desire to maintain excellence in our schools and be responsive to community concerns.  Here are some highlights demonstrating the breadth of experience our candidates posses:

  • Laura Dean-Frazier (U) grew up in Old Lyme and has three children who went through our school system.  She has been very active in the PTOs at all of our schools, as well as a volunteer for Park and Rec over many years.  Laura is well known for her volunteerism in this community, especially through her years of coaching. She wants to maintain the quality of our great school system.
  • Mona Colwell (U) is a substitute teacher in the LOL school system.  She has a strong professional background in finance as an analyst and sales person.  She has children in our school system and is a dedicated volunteer to the PTA and LOL Soccer Club.  Her goals include assuring the quality of our schools while spending money wisely.
  • Chris Staab (R) has two children in our school system.  Chris has a history of giving of his time and talents to the town.  His participation with the Harbor Management Commission, the Lyme Old Lyme Election Foundation and LOL Little League demonstrate his dedication to bettering the community.  Chris has a strong management background in his career, bringing excellent leadership skills to the Board of Education.
  • Michael Presti (R) is retired from a 24 year successful career in the U.S. Coast Guard.  He now teaches social studies in the New London school system.  Michael has two children in the LOL school system.  He has a penchant for teaching civics and the principles of our constitution.  Michael will work hard to preserve the quality and high standards of our school system, bringing teaching experience to the BOE.

In this time of uncertainty, it is imperative that we elect candidates committed to keeping our schools safely open, that will effectively represent local values and vow to take a thoughtful, transparent approach to district budgeting and financial expenditures. Our candidates for the Board of Education are the best choice for Old Lyme.

Vote for the Republican endorsed candidates for the Board of Education on November 2nd.
