As the chair of the Old Saybrook Board of Finance and a financial advisor, I am constantly focused on Connecticut’s fiscal health. To me, it is vital that we have a Connecticut legislature that will keep an eye on taxes and spending and will work to bring people and industry to Connecticut. Devin Carney has always been fiscally responsible and constantly tries to find ways to make it more affordable to live and do business in Connecticut.

With many retirees leaving or thinking about leaving the state, Devin understands that the state needs to do a better job by reducing costs on seniors such as taxes on social security, pensions, and other retirement income. As a member of the Finance Committee, he introduced legislation to reduce taxes on IRAs in order for us to stay competitive with states like Florida. In order to attract young families, Devin has championed legislation like the “Learn Here, Live Here,” which aims to assist our young professionals in purchasing a first home.

At the same time, Devin is the only candidate keenly aware of the local economy. He belongs to the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce and is constantly talking to our local businesses. Unlike many of his colleagues in Hartford, Devin has tried to reduce taxes and mandates on our local job creators instead of adding them.

If your readers are concerned about the cost of living in Connecticut or Connecticut’s fiscal sustainability, I hope they will cast a vote to re-elect Devin Carney.
