ESSEX/DEEP RIVER/CHESTER — After less than four months on the job, Kelly Sterner, finance director of the Region 4 Public Schools announced her resignation.

“Our Finance Director, Kelly Sterner has announced her intention to resign from the position later this fall,” said Brian White, Superintendent for the Region 4 School District. “Ms. Sterner is committed to supporting the district through this period of transition.”

Sterner’s resignation comes after a year of frequent turnover in the district. The last full-time business manager, Kimberly Allen, resigned in November of 2019 following the departure of the former Superintendent Ruth Levy and the Facilities Director Bruce Glowac. After Allen’s resignation, the district had two interim managers before Sterner took over in July.

Sterner, who served the town of Essex as Finance Director for 17 years was well respected by many in the area, including First Selectman Norm Needleman, and she was expected to be a long-term asset to the school district.

“Ms. Sterner possesses not only the credentials and experience necessary to oversee our business office, but she is also uniquely qualified to understand and address the challenges of overseeing the finances for the Supervision District and the schools of Chester, Deep River, Essex and Region 4, ” White said shortly after she accepted the position. “I am confident that Ms. Sterner will be an invaluable asset to our central office, our schools, and the community.”
