On Saturday, September 28, Clare Byrne will be performing with fellow friends and musicians Amy Larimer and Nick Leichter in a full two-hour set as part of Nightingale Cafe’s singer songwriter series.

The series began six years ago with the hard work of Dave Gregorie, according to Gail Stevens, founder of the Nightingale Cafe and the nonprofit MusicNow Foundation in Old Lyme.

“It’s hard for performers to just do all original music at most gigs,” Stevens said. “This is a venue and a program where we really feature original lyrics and advocate for it. It’s been really amazing.”

MusicNow is dedicated to supporting live music to engage, enrich, and educate youth through workshop programming, performance opportunities and musical mentorships.

Byrne’s June release, Celestials, is her first, double album “Sister” and “Brother.”

“The music will be extra sweet,” Byrne said. “We’ve done a bunch of engagements together playing the album, starting with the first song and sometimes changing the order but playing all the way through both Sister, and then Brother.”

Byrne said her band — which does not yet have an official name — is most excited about the range of instruments they will be able to bring into Nightingale Café, including piano, harmonica, electric and acoustic guitar and mandolin.

“This is only my second engagement in Connecticut, so I’m inviting all my new Connecticut friends to it and musicians that I’ve met since I moved here,” Byrne said. “I’m excited to have new Connecticut friends come and see the show and see my music.”

Tickets cost $5 and all the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit MusicNow Foundation.
