To the Editor:

RE “Ørsted and Eversource Pitch “Non-zero-sum Game” for Agreement with Port Authority” (Sept. 12, 2019):

This is quite simply just a politically driven charade the cost of which, assuming it ever gets permitted, will all fall on the backs of the ratepayers.

Just ask the Danes who now pay the highest electric rates in Europe even with their wind farms being able to depend on cheap hydro from Norway and Sweden for backup power, or the Germans who have had to import more coal to keep their baseload plants going which has actually INCREASED carbon emissions.

Where are we going to get our backup power now that the politicians have mandated closure of the nuclear plants? More combined cycle natural gas plants will have to be built to provide it, so why all this hugely expensive duplicative investment in intermittent and inefficient wind which will have no effect on carbon emissions? To satisfy the ideologically driven save-the-planet environmental lobby, that’s why.

I know you’re caught between a rock and a hard place Eversource, but don’t try and put lipstick on a pig. This is America where the people still have a say, as opposed to the more elitist top down government in Europe, and sooner or later the voters will wake up to this charade.

And Orsted the Danish supplier, like all the turbine manufacturers, are just parasites to government subsidies, and as you know better than anyone, Eversource, the renewable “industry” will collapse in a nanosecond when they are eventually withdrawn.

And 9.8 cents kw hour? Funny how they pay more than 3x that in Denmark…
